Maria Riga is a Chemist, graduate of the Chemistry Department of NKUA and has a M.Sc. on Environmental Chemistry and Technology from NKUA. Her thesis was focusing on metal analysis in marine organisms, and issue on which she works also for her PhD thesis. She has also experience on : issues related to dry activated sludge of the Psyttalia waste water treatment center, to be used as alternative fuel in cement factories; programmes of environmental awareness and capacity building in Mediterranean countries of the EU supported Horizon 2020 CB/MEP; collection, recycling and vaporization of paper in the framework of a pilot project carried out in selected sites of Attiki. She was also member of the joint research team of NKUA, Technical University of Dresden and the Agricultural University of Athens, responsible for the monitoring and operation of the Unit of mechanical recycling and composting of the greater Athens area. In parallel she is responsible for the analysis of precious metals in a plant recycling/reclaiming metals from goldsmith worshops’ wastes.
